Nestled on the edge of the Youlston Estate in the peaceful village of Shirwell, find plenty of walks on your doorstep. The edge of Exmoor National Park is a 15-minute drive and a day on the moors will certainly set tails wagging. Follow well-trodden trails, climb Dunkery Beacon or walk the South West Coast Path past Heddon’s Mouth, Woody Bay and the Hangman Cliffs before tucking into a hearty meal at one of the local watering holes.

Renowned for its delicious food and country charm, the Pyne Arms in East Down is 10 minutes from your door and is a must-visit for the foodies amongst you with your four-legged friend welcomed too. More eateries await in nearby Muddiford (6 minutes) and the market town of Barnstaple (12 minutes), where you can also visit the shops, theatre and cinema and hop on the traffic-free Tarka Trail for a cycle or a walk.

Head to the coast for a day by the sea and visit Saunton Sands (30-minute drive) where dogs are welcomed and there are surf schools, a café and a beachside restaurant to keep you entertained, fed and watered. Also half an hour away is the bustling seaside village of Instow where you can stretch your legs, admire gorgeous estuary views from a waterside eatery and savour a local ice cream during the summer months.
